HomeServe has more than seven million customers, and we’ve been working with them since 2013 to help serve and delight them. They identified a need to replace a business-critical app that was used to administer and perform thousands of installation jobs nationwide.
HomeServe needed a partner they could trust to deliver a new, scalable and robust version of the app. It had to track jobs, record outcomes on a central field management platform and log customers’ sign-offs on completed jobs.
Crucially, they required a technology partner who also understood the business pain points and opportunities to help them maximise the ROI for the app refresh.
Implementation of the new app also had to result in no downtime and to ensure business continuity while migrating customers and staff to the new app.
How we met it:
Our first step was to undertake a thorough review of HomeServe’s existing systems and user base to ensure a deep understanding of the people and processes involved in the delivery of their services. We investigated a number of options before deciding on, and recommending, an approach that would allow them to proceed swiftly and safely.
Just as we can turn ideas into transformational digital products for start-ups, we can provide the same innovation and inspiration for large PLCs such as HomeServe.
The rebuild and rollout were a resounding success, and crucially resulted in no downtime. The new app is used by HomeServe’s engineers to track jobs and record the outcome of completed jobs. Customers use it to review and confirm the outcomes, and the ops team use it to assign new jobs, track completions and kick off the billing process.
Improved user experience and critical new offline functionality has resulted in improved data quality and operational efficiencies.
Whilst building the app we saw an opportunity to develop Cavy in our own time. It’s an open-source testing framework for React-Native which helps developers to build more robust applications. Cavy now has more than 600 stars on Github and improves code quality for products built by other teams around the world.
